When I travel abroad, I love visiting salons (especially in countries with a favorable exchange rate and low cost of living). When I went to India in 2007, I was at the salon several times a month because services were so inexpensive. I don’t get this luxury in the United States, so I definitely took advantage!
One of my favorite procedures was a head and hair massage. The stylist would give my hair a ten minute massage with olive oil and then leave me to sit and relax for another ten minutes before washing out the oil. I thought: hmm… olive oil should be easy to find in the United States.

Years later, I’ve repeated this Indian procedure in my home bathroom. Sometimes, I’ll heat the oil a little for an extra kick. Every time I give my head an olive oil massage, my hair looks beautiful. My (extremely) dry hair could definitely go for a weekend pick-me-up!
You probably have some olive oil in your kitchen. In all seriousness: don’t be skeptical, and give it a try!
